2010 (Rookie Season) Race Results

These are the races I took on after May last year when I dove headlong into triathlons:

Donner Lake Sprint Distance July 18, 2010:
440y swim/6mi bike/2 mile run
Overall time:  1:07:43  Overall rank:  115/268  AG rank:  10/21  I was 3rd in my AG out of the water!
This was my very first race, and I was way out of my element.   The distances were short, but what made this killer is the fact that the bike is a 3 mile ascent from 6000 to 7000 feet.   I had only ever ridden my bike on flat ground at sea level.  It was tough, but I made it without any incidents.  I was very happy with my middle of the pack finish!
Things I learned:
A neoprene surf top was a bad choice.   The water was warm enough to not wear one, and it promptly flooded as soon as I got in.
I'm fairly fast compared to alot of swimmers, so I shouldn't be scared of starting up front.
This sport is FUN!

Hansen Dam Sprint Triathlon Aug 15, 2010
500y swim/11mi bike/3mi run
Overall time:  1:11:35  Overall rank:  106/424  AG rank:  16/39
This was another great learning experience.   It's a really great race for first timers.   Great swim course, bike is fairly challenging, and the run is on dirt horse trails.    This was my first time using my xterra wetsuit, and it was awesome.   I was 2nd in my AG out of the water.

Santa Cruz Olympic Triathlon  Sep 26, 2010

.9mi swim/24mi bike/6.1mi run
Overall time:  2:44:11  Overall Rank:  267/702  AG rank:  33/65
This is the race I started training for.   We had an awesome weekend with my parents who met us in Santa Cruz.  Pa and I both had shiny new bikes to ride, and were ready to kick some ass.  The morning start was delayed due to some heavy fog covering the end of the pier, which we had to swim around.   It finally cleared and we were off.  It was a waved, beach start.....and I loved it.   It was awesome charging into the water and battling for a good position.    I had a fantastic swim in this race.  felt comfortable and confident.  I swam it at a 1:33/100yd pace.  The went pretty well even if I lacked any major bike training.   It was a really cool course up the coast and back.   I managed to average 19mph for the ride, and I was very happy with that.  As soon as I started the run, I was having some cramp problems, but the dissapeared at the halfway point and I was able to finish strong.   I had an all out sprint with another guy in my AG for the last 200 yards or so....and it was a photo finish.    It was great having Lisa and the kids and Mommy there at the finish cheering for me.  Got to see Pa finish a few minutes later (he was in a later wave) and we actually finished just a few minutes apart. (I did beat him though.  :)
